AMRAM AND JOCHEBED

Jochebed must have been a mighty mother to produce children such as Aaron, Moses and Miriam. This mother raised three children who affected a whole nation! Micah 6:4. As we follow the generations of Aaron (we'll take Aaron's line as that is the priesthood generation) we see the continuing godly generation. We do not read much about the priests after Phinehas, but if the meaning of their names has anything to do with their character we can presume that they continued walking after God.

1st generation                       Amram 'exalted' and Jochebed 'Jehovah is honor'

2nd generation                      Aaron 'enlightened'

3rd generation                       Eleazar 'God is helper'

4th generation                       Phinehas 'oracle of God'. Phinehas certainly was an oracle of God. He rose up for God against the man who took the Midianitish woman in adultery and thrust them both through with a javelin. Because he did this, God said, "Behold I give unto him my covenant of peace: And he shall have it, and his seed after him, even the covenant of an everlasting priesthood, because he was zealous for his God and made an atonement for the children of Israel." Numbers 25:1-15.

5th generation                       Abishua 'father of safety'

6th generation                       Bukki 'mouth of Jehovah'

7th generation                       Uzzi 'Yah is strong'

8th generation                       Zerahiah 'God is appearing'

9th generation                       Meraioth 'revelations'. Meraioth was a priest in the days of Solomon.

Actually, the line goes all the way to Ezra, 18 generations from Aaron. Ezra 7:1-5.

LOIS AND EUNICE

1 Timothy 1:5, "I call to remembrance the unfeigned faith that is in thee, which dwelt first in thy grandmother Lois, and thy mother Eunice; and I am persuaded that in thee also." I am sure that we would not have had the two books of Timothy in the cannon of scripture if it weren’t for grandmother Lois and mother Eunice!
