Page 2 of 11 5. MULTITUDINOUSLY Genesis 32:12 says, "I will surely do thee good, and make thy seed as the sand of the sea, which cannot be numbered for multitude." The Hebrew word for 'multitude' is 'rob' which is from a root word 'rabab' meaning 'multiply by the myriad, ten thousands, be increased, more in number.' Leviticus 26:9, “For I will have respect unto you, and make you fruitful, and multiply you…” This Scripture tells us that God shows respect to us by multiplying us. Deuteronomy 1:10-11, “The Lord your God hath multiplied you, and behold, ye are this day as the stars of heaven for multitude. (The Lord God of your fathers make you a thousand times so many more as ye are, and bless you, as He hath promised you!) Proverbs 14:28, “In the multitude of people is the king’s honor, but in the want of people is the destruction of the prince.” Other Scriptures where the word 'rob' is used: Genesis 16:10; 48:16; Deuteronomy 1:10; 10:22, 28:62; 1 Kings 3:8; 2 Chronicles 1:9. Exodus 1:7-22 tells us what happened when Israel obeyed God's command to "be fruitful and multiply." Exodus 1:7 says, "the land was filled with them." Knox translation says, "the race of Israel grew into a teeming multitude."
The Living Bible says, "there was a veritable population explosion."
Deuteronomy 26:5 says, "A Syrian ready to perish was my father, and he went down into Egypt, and sojourned there with a few, and became there a nation, great, mighty, and populous." What was the outcome of this population explosion?
