He hates to change a flat tire, do minor mechanical repairs, hammer in a nail or two, pick up the chainsaw and cut a bit of firewood, paint the ceiling, swing an axe, mow the lawn or dig the garden. He may be good at things not considered manual labor, but even there, do not push him too hard, for it will make him grumpy and tired. I am definitely not trying to put all men into the labor force, but a few days every now and then would not do any harm.

Ecclesiastes 9:10 says, “Whatsoever thy hand findeth to do, do it with thy might.” Let me paraphrase this Scripture. “Whatever job or career you have, take off your coat, roll up your sleeves and get stuck in. Give it your very best shot and a bit more for good measure.” Away with all this wimpiness, whether it is in the labor force, the white-collar force, the entertainment force or the church force. A real man loathes and despises the attitudes of lazy, delicate, feminine men who do not know how to do a decent day’s work.

The wimp asks how little he can do and get away with it. The real man asks how much he can do, for it gives him a sense of accomplishment. He likes to work and he likes to work hard. It does his soul good for at the end of the day he knows that he has earned his rest. He knows that someday, somehow he will be rewarded for his diligence.

Men rarely get dismissed from their employment because they work too hard. It is usually the other way around. Christians should be the hardest workers on the job. They may not always be the most intelligent, but they should definitely be the most generous, the most conscientious and the most diligent of all workers.
