Page 2 of 2 1. THE REAL MAN WORKS WILLINGLY Judges 5:2, “The people willingly offered themselves.” 1 Chronicles 28:9, “As for you, my son Solomon, know the God of your father, and serve him with a loyal heart and with a willing mind.” 1 Chronicles 28:21, “Every willing and skilful man.” Psalm 110:3, “Thy people shall be willing in the day of thy power.” Isaiah 1:19, “If you are willing and obedient, you shall eat the good of the land.” The real man is a willing man. The wimp is sluggish to offer assistance. The real man will happily go the second mile. If you break down on the side of the road and require help, how few there are who will stop to willingly lend a helping hand. The wimp would not stop for he is afraid he might be attacked. The real man will not only stop and do the best he can but willingly go the second mile, even if it means going out of his way. The Lord looks down from heaven and notices this willing man. He will reward him even if he is not a Christian - how much more if he is a believer. The dictionary describes willing as “ready to act gladly and eagerly.” Christian men should be the most willing of all men on the face of the earth. The world is desperate for willing men. The kingdom of God is desperate for willing men who will leap at every opportunity to lend a helping hand. Away with this dreary, mean, slow-to-help, wimpy spirit. Away with it I say! It shall no more be a part of us. It is the intrusion of the devil to destroy the image of God in men for God created men to be real men – willing, active and eagerly ready to act in the work He has given us to do in life. The Parable of the Good Samaritan in Luke 10:25-37 clearly demonstrates the difference between the wimpy priest and Levite who passed by on the other side of the road and left the stripped and wounded man lying alone. The Good Samaritan who revealed the true mage of God, was more than a willing helper. He went the second mile. Jesus instructed the wimpy lawyer in Luke 10:37 to “Go and do likewise.” That comment of Jesus must have really challenged the wimpy self-justifying lawyer. God is always available and willing to help and we who are created in His image and likeness should also be willing and eager in every good work. “Oh Lord, help me to cast off the slow-to-act, unresponsive spirit of wimpiness. Make me a very willing man to do all the things you have called me to do. Amen.”’ Get ready for the next episode!
