Page 3 of 3 Jesus spoke about this in Matthew 25:36-43 when he said, “I was hungry and you gave me no food; I was thirsty and you gave me no drink; I was a stranger and you did not take me in, naked and you did not clothe me, sick and in prison and you did not visit me.” Those who offered up lame excuses for not helping were sent into everlasting punishment. It may feel like getting our hands a little too ditty to go and visit someone in prison. It may feel like getting our hands a little too ditty to visit the sick and pray for them. The wimp always has an excuse for not helping his neighbors in their hour of need. Jesus said to the lawyer in Luke 10:30-37, “'So which of these three do you think was neighbor to him who fell among the thieves?’ And he said, ‘He who showed mercy on him.’ Then Jesus said to him, ‘Go and do likewise.’” In other words, “Stop being a wimp! Get your hands dirty if necessary and get involved in helping your neighbors in their hour of need.” Some of the men on the flight that crashed in Pennsylvania on 9/11 showed plainly that they were anything but wimps. When the desperate need arose, they took action. They realized that if they missed their moment of opportunity to get their hands dirty, the plane they were on would become another weapon of mass destruction. They quickly acted along with the now famous words, “Let’s roll!” Even though it meant their own death they got their hands dirty and their masculinity was vindicated by the world. Get ready for the next episode on overcoming wimpiness.
