Page 3 of 7 PRAYER AND CHRISTIANITY CANNOT BE SEPARATED This problem is bad enough. What makes it worse is that many do not care enough to seriously pray about it. What disgusting, diabolical wimpiness! Is this not lukewarm Christianity? Is this not what Jesus was talking about in Revelation 3:15-16? “I know your works, that you are neither cold nor hot… So then, because you are lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will spew you out of my mouth.” Most turn their heads the other way when they see the sign, “Pre-service Prayer Meeting.” Are we afraid of becoming too religious by attending the prayer meetings? Prayerless Christianity is almost as false and dead as other religions. Prayer and true Christianity cannot be separated. Do we stay away from the prayer meetings because it is an exercise with which we are not familiar? Are we like an unfit, flabby man joining a class of experienced body builders for the first time? Are we afraid that the prayer meeting might expose our spiritual barrenness when people are crying out to God for divine help in our nation’s hour of desperate need? The wimpy Christian does not feel the convictions that motivate him to cry out to God. This sort of thing is completely foreign to his casual way of thinking. He likes to stay cool, calm and undisturbed. If he attended the prayer meetings, he might feel a little of God’s heat, and what would that to do his smooth, delicate constitution? It may make him feel a trifle uncomfortable about watching his next unclean movie. God has ordained personal and corporate prayer as His means of turning nations around. Prayers that come from humble, honest, and sincere hearts. These prayer meetings have a cutting edge to them. There is a strong sense of urgency and sense of desperateness. It is prayer that brings revival – and prayer that keeps revival going. In fact, we will know we have revival when there are as many people at the prayer meetings as the main church service!
