John Ruskin said, “When a man is all wrapped up in himself he makes a pretty small package.”

The wimp believes that society owes him something and in many cases, everything. He often holds a grudge that people have not given him enough. He fails to realize that the world does not owe him anything. The real truth is that he owes the world his contribution in whatever way he can to make this world a better place.  This world is in great need of servants, people who will roll up their sleeves and be prepared to do something useful for their fellowman.

“Only one life, ‘twill soon be passed,

Only what’s done for Christ will last.”

The wimp is always looking for handouts from the government, the church, neighbors, relatives and friends. This is not to be construed with those, who through unforeseen circumstances, are in desperate need of assistance and help. I truly believe that God’s people should always be a giving and serving people. Our God is very generous and benevolent and He rains His blessings on the unjust as well as the just. (Matthew 5:45) However, God’s benevolence should not be taken for granted. Without a doubt, God desires that the unjust should change their ways and be forever grateful that through the mercies of God they are led to repentance.

The wimp lacks motivation to get his rear end up to go and help someone in need. He even lacks motivation to help himself. One cannot help but question the sanity of giving hard-earned money to those who just want to laze about and watch TV all day. Putting food on the wimp’s table is only going to make him wimpier.

The wimp should not be so picky and choosey about work. There is always a job to be done somewhere, even if the pay is not great or the job not desirable. Who knows what an insignificant job well done may lead to? A moving ship will finally reach its destination, even though it may have a few stops along the way. Oh how miserable to be in a becalmed ship that has no wind in its sails.

It is not only the poor who may be wimpy users and abusers of mankind. Often the rich fall into this same category of wimpiness. Sometimes the rich can be the most selfish abusers of all.

Proverbs 10:26 describes the attitude of the slothful servant. He is like vinegar to the teeth and smoke to the eyes. The reason for this is because this sluggard is a user and a taker. The passage describes him being sent to deliver a message or do a job but he is negligent, lazy and unfaithful. He does the job poorly or not at all. But at the end of the day he hangs around with his hand out expecting to be paid for his wimpy service. This wimp should be fired on the spot. No questions asked.

I cannot but feel the pain the Lord must feel toward the unfaithful, slothful, negligent church that has been told to deliver a message of great love to a lost and dying world. At the end of the day, to be sure, this same church will be waiting with its hands out, expecting to receive the reward of an overcomer’s crown. This self-seeking church will receive its reward and it will be a huge shock. (Luke 12:42-47)
