4. IT IS WIMPY TO BE UNDISCIPLINED IN SEXUAL APPETITES

This is a very powerful appetite that must be brought under strong self control. Self control is a fruit of the Holy Spirit, and is much needed in this wimpy world of just doing what feels good. (Galatians 5:23)

Sexual impurities are high on the list of those who will suffer the wrath of God. Romans 1:18-32 speaks, among other sins, of ”uncleanness, in the lusts of their hearts, to dishonor their bodies among themselves”, “vile passions”, “homosexuality”, “debased mind” and “sexual immorality.” Verse 32 states that “those who practice such things are worthy of death.”

The challenge goes beyond being involved in these sins. The same judgment is on those who “have pleasure in them that do them.” The Revised Authorised Version says, “who approve of those who practice them.”  I believe that watching fornication and adultery on movies or TV is condoning and approving those who do them. To derive pleasure from reading a book that describes sexual misconducts is sinful and could bring the same judgment as those who actually commit the sin.

Ephesians 2:3 describes the “children of wrath” whose lifestyle is “in the lusts of our flesh, fulfilling the desires of the flesh and of the mind.” The lusts of the flesh are listed in Galatians 5:19-21. Adultery, fornication, uncleanness and lasciviousness (loose morals) are at the top of the list! Paul concludes the list saying, “As I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God.”

The final chapter of the Bible reveals those who will be outside the gates of the heavenly city, “the dogs – the sorcerers, the sexually immoral, the murderers, the idol worshipers, and all who love to live a lie.” (Revelation 22:15 NLT)

The sexual appetite, under the control and discipline of the Holy Spirit and within the boundaries of a loving marriage relationship is beautiful, meaningful and holy. Hebrews 13:4 says, “Marriage is honorable among all, and the bed undefiled; but fornicators and adulterers God will judge.”

There is far too much pathetic wimpiness in the sexual life of many so-called Christians. There is absolutely no excuse for a born again Christian to take license to watch R-rated adult movies or in anyway be involved in kinky Hollywood type sexual activity.
