The Bible distinguishes between the left and the right.

Ecclesiastes 10:2 NIV says, “The heart of the wise inclines to the right, but the heart of the fool to the left.”

Matthew 25:32-46, “All nations will be gathered before him, and he will separate them one from another as a shepherd divides his sheep from the goats. And he will set the sheep on his right hand, but the goats on the left. Then the King will say to those on his right hand, ‘Come, you blessed of my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world’… Then he will also say to those on the left hand, ‘Depart from me, you cursed, into the everlasting fire prepared for the devil and his angels’…”

The reason why the wimp lacks solid convictions is because his mindset is not based upon the solid teachings of God’s Word alone. It is the Word of God that is the foundation upon which we should build our entire lives. The wimp mixes a little of the Bible with a huge portion of the propaganda of worldly humanistic media. He tries to balance it all out and in so doing he becomes a spiritual compromiser.

At the end of his “straight from the shoulder, pull no punches” Sermon on the Mount, Jesus strongly exhorted his followers, “Therefore whoever hears these sayings of mine, and does them, I will liken him to a wise man who built his house on the rock: and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it did not fall, for it was founded on the rock. Now everyone who hears these sayings of mine, and does not do them, will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand: and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it fell. And great was its fall.” (Matthew 7:24-27)

There can be no room for compromise here. The famous saying is true, “You do or your don’t, you will or you won’t but there’s no such thing as can’t!” I believe the Sermon on the Mount is the most important sermon of all. It is the Sermon of sermons. Every Christian should know it by heart. But more important than memorizing this sermon is doing it. It is only by putting the truths into practice on a daily basis that our house can be saved from the storms of life.

The wimp does not have the discipline to go all the way with the absolute claims of God’s Word. Full surrender and 100 percent abandonment to the Bible as the revealed will of God is a problem to the wimp. He does not want to be seen as a fanatic. A zealot of the Bible? No way!

The wimp has no solid convictions because he does not take up his cross to follow Christ. Self still rules his life. The Bible is not part of his daily diet. The wimp may attend church fairly regularly but he is so intoxicated with the world, self and humanistic values that his ears only partially hear what God is saying. Any excuse he may offer will not be legitimate on Judgment Day.

The wimp has no solid convictions because in many cases he chooses not to have solid convictions. Firm convictions are costly and often involve change. This does not appeal to the easygoing attitude of the wimp. The wimp cannot be relied upon when it is time to make a stand on moral issues. He would feel out of place standing outside an abortion clinic. He is shaky on his convictions about homosexuality, divorce, having the children God wants him to have, personal holiness, fornication, adultery etc.
