Daniel 9:3 draws our attention to this wise and yet humble man. “I set my face unto the Lord God, to seek by prayer and supplications, with fasting, and sackcloth, and ashes: and I prayed unto the Lord my God, and made my confession…” This humble and repentant man, interceding on the behalf of his nation, drew a quick response from God. Verse 21 tells us that while he was praying, God sent the angel Gabriel to him. Humility, coupled with fervent request, will always bring a quick response from God.

We cannot pass over 2 Chronicles 7:14, ‘If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.”

Speaking of King Josiah, God says, “Because your heart was tender, and you humbled yourself before God when you heard His words against this place and against its inhabitants, and you humbled yourself before me, and you tore your clothes and wept before me, I also have heard you,” says the Lord. Surely I will gather you to your fathers, and you shall be gathered to your grave in peace; and your eyes shall not see all the calamity which I will bring on this place and its inhabitants.”`(2 Chronicles 34:27-28)

1 Peter 5:5-6, “Yes, all of you be submissive to one another, and be clothed with humility, for ‘God resists the proud, but gives grace to the humble.’ Therefore humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you in due time.”

In our quest to do exploits for God, may we always remember that it is not our knowledge of the Hebrew or the Greek or even the knowledge of the Bible that gains God’s favor. To the contrary, it is our knowledge and application of the truth that God resists the proud and gives grace to the humble. This will release God’s mighty hand to our favor. The knowledge of God that brings exploits can only be gained in the closet where we earnestly seek His face on a regular basis. It is the knowledge that comes through intimate acquaintance that we so desperately need these days.

David proclaimed, “Thy way, O God, is in the sanctuary.” (Psalm 77:13) It is in the sanctuary of the closet that we come into the knowledge of the ways of God. This is the secret to seeing His exploits.
