If we are strong in character, through our obedience to the Scriptures and the Holy Spirit, the temptations will do us no harm, even if they are difficult situations to endure. In actual fact, these temptations will help to strengthen our character. However, if we are half-hearted in our yieldedness to God, temptations will quickly reveal our wimpy flaws.

Samson was a classic example of a man who loved to play with fire - the fire of the age-old temptation that has brought many a gifted and strong man to ruin. Unlawful relations with the opposite sex will quickly rob you of your spiritual strength and ultimately your godly vision.

Most men would envy the strength and power that God displayed through Samson, but who would envy the tragic hour of his powerless defeat at the knees of the beautiful, but subtle deceiving temptress, Delilah? I am sure that poor, blind Samson, struggling to walk round and round in circles as he ground in the prison house, lamented mightily that his wimpy character had brought him to such a crushing defeat. What an enormous price he had to pay for his wimpiness. (Judges 16:18-21)

The wimp is not willing to fight temptation but tends to give in easily. Persistence, patience, battling and resolves are not part of the wimp’s vocabulary. These are terms that belong to the real men of God.

We were born into the kingdom of God to fight our spiritual adversary and fight we must or we will surely loose. There is no middle ground. We are either winning or loosing. In 1 Timothy 6:12 we are exhorted to “Fight the good fight of faith.” Verses 13-14 go on to say that this is a “charge” and a “commandment” to keep “without spot, unrebukable, until the appearing of our Lord Jesus Christ.”
