The dictionary describes discipline as self control, training of the mind and character, bringing under control and to a condition of order and obedience. The synonyms are: self command, self control, self discipline, self government, self mastery, self restraint and will power.

1. IT IS WIMPY TO BE UNDISCIPLINED IN SEEKING GOD

Many of our twenty-first century Christians are disciplined academically and physically. They would not miss their daily workout at the gym. But they do not see the daily discipline of seeking God as important. What has happened to our priorities?

The discipline of daily seeking God should be above all other disciplines. I am not saying we leave the others undone, but Jesus exhorts us to “Seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness.”  This Scriptures has an amazing reward – “And all these things shall be added to you.” (Matthew 6:33) It is the key to the provision of our daily needs. Is a Christian not having his daily needs met? It would be wise to check out how much time he spends daily seeking God and putting His kingdom first.

David said in Psalm 55:17-18, “Evening and morning and at noon I will pray, and cry aloud, and he shall hear my voice. He has redeemed my soul in peace from the battle which was against me.”

Daniel was an extremely busy man, supervising the princes who governed 120 provinces and the entire empire of King Darius. (Daniel 6:1-3). Even when faced with being thrown into a lion’s den, he did not give up his personal discipline of praying on his knees three times a day and giving thanks to God as he had always done. (Daniel 6:10)

Is it too much discipline to seek the face of God three times a day? I am sure that if we took this principle to heart we would see a whole lot more accomplished in every area of our lives. Today’s world offers weak, pathetic excuses for not praying once a week, let alone three times a day. I find you have to beg and plead with people to spend five minutes of their time to visit the prayer room, just to say, “Please help us, Lord. We need you so much.” The truth is: we need God more in this evil hour than possibly any other hour of history.
